Copic Color Palette Class
Copic color palette class was on tap a few weeks ago. One of my favorite classes to teach (well besides all of my classes) are the Copic color Palette Classes. In these classes, we fully explore only 1-2 family color groups within the Copic system. In this class, students explored the “pinks” also known as the RV and the R color groups. I’m often asked what my favorite “pink” (or insert any other color here). I know I look like a moron trying to answer the question because well…there are so many different combinations to choose from!
Range of Colors
Each family group of colors has a huge range. By focusing on just one or two color groups, the students learn the range and most importantly, what works best for them and their style of coloring. This is also a wonderful way to combat the “gotta have it all” urge that runs through all of us.
If you are just starting out in Copics and want to be judicious in purchasing, find a class where a large range of markers will be available for you to use in class. This will provide you the opportunity to try before buying. In the color palette classes, all the markers for making each combination are available for the students to use. The class also allows those who have the full set of Copics a chance to try out markers and combinations they may not have used or thought of before!
I’ve been teaching this particular style of class for about 4 years now. It has always been one of the most effective ways for students to get a grasp of the Copic coloring system. The class structure provides a lot of time to color and blend and make a lot of mistakes before the aha moment! For my current and past students, look for a “new” color palette class on the upcoming schedule to be released at the Open House in April.
