Good morning everyone! I’m teaching a class called Altered Box, I know how original right?  And of course, you’ll be able to create the design which is perfectly suited just for you.  You can find the class on my class calendar (tab on the top bar) or a quick look by using the Upcoming classes/events on the right side bar!

Top front view

I had a great time taking a plain wooden and oh so plain wooden box and turning it into something fun and different.  I played around with some gesso to create the weathered look, and distress paints and stains.  I have quite a few talents, many which get me into trouble, but I can say with certainty, God did not bestow upon me the ability to draw.  So those gorgeous flowers and words those are stamps from The Totally Tracy line at Dare to be Artzy that painted with DecoArt paints.

Played around with gesso mixed with reinkers and then through a stencil…hmmm a little thin but definitely workable.  I think I’ll stick with the alcohol based refills when I color up gesso.  But you never know until you give it a whirl

Another side of the altered box.  I decided each side of the box would have a different word theme.  I used Whimsy Stamps and sentiments for the word themes.  The other sides are Faith and Love.

Inside of altered box

I aged the outside of the altered box using copper metallic rub from DecoArts. I played around with the viscosity of the medium by varying the amount of water I used.  I kept the inside of the box non-aged to show a contrast with the weathered looking outside!

I must apologize to all Floridians who I may have inadvertently made fun of because of their inability to handle cold weather believing 60 degrees was the start of an upcoming ice age.  Or perhaps maybe I’m apologizing for the time I thought to myself why are people evacuating so early for a hurricane, the wind is just blowing.

Well after only 2 days of hurricane 2 type of winds (and at the low end of 2 mind you) in Colorado, I realized I would be pushing and shoving to get the hell out of the way of a hurricane. I prefer snow and cold all day every day to that kind of crazy wind.  I just knew my roof was going to blow off. Or I, in my high profile vehicle, would be joining the dozens of semi trucks blown into the ditches.  I talk a good game, but I’m a certified wind wussy!

Please accept my apologies.

Thanks for stopping in for a visit today and can’t wait to see what all you make!
